work and waiting for my call / govt people who annoy me / on turning 25

govt people who ask me cock things like 'Kau ni lelaki ke perempuan?' and insist on calling me 'Encik' even after i have introduced myself as 'Cik' annoy the living daylights out of me.

i know i have a low voice on the phone. do they want me to sound like Alvin the Chipmunk on helium the next time i call up???

the rudest was the PTPTN lady who asked me what my gender was (see above). i really wanted to retort 'Kau ni betul-betul kurang ajar la.' not to mention the time the IC people asked me if i had considered surgery to make my 'mata sepet' (slit eyes) look bigger. i just told them that i had no money to do so, and even if i had, it was better spent elsewhere. in any event, i told them i m grateful to God for even being able to see in the first place.

i'm turning 25 next month! wow. a quarter of a century old. i certainly feel old, given how forgetful i've become and how grumpy i can sometimes get but i still enjoy a good laugh now and then and i like my food and drink. :)
what's more important is figuring out my direction in life and moving towards realising the dreams within me. praying hard that i can make it happen.

cheap thing no good...

actually the full saying, as my grandfather loves to say is "cheap thing no good, good thing no cheap".

and this was amply borne out by the Bleach chap 1-20 dvd i bought the other day. i was attracted by the super low price of rm16.90, and i thought there was a catch.
ok so it's in japanese only. nevermind, as long as there's english subtitles.

ah, THAT turned out to be the catch. simply appalling translations in the subtitles which totally grated on my nerves. things like typo errors e.g. 'shinning' for 'shining' or even translating 'shinigami' as 'you are the Death' are still ok.
but definitely NOT 'how dare you touch his down there?!'
it sounded so wrong. ...

in the end, i had to fall back on my rudimentary Japanese knowledge, as well as my manga readings to get any sense out of the subtitles. bleargh!

so the moral of the story is 'cheap thing no good, good thing no cheap.' i think i'll stick to buying the 5 chap a piece dvd from now on.

computer blues :(

i've lost everything. well, almost.

yet another round of reformatting - this time DIY with my brother guiding me through the steps, after my computer crashed (spectacularly) last night.
and that means lost pictures, lost downloads, lost documents. among other things.

so goodbye to my kl tower, lawnite, lunch and baby Claire pix. your Auntie Petrina is very sorry...

if you ask me, yes, i m sad. but i've learned a lot today. i learned that a 3 year old computer cannot sustain too many activities at one time, ADOBE downloads/updates are pure evil - it crashed after i downloaded the latest updates for that programme, and reformatting the computer is not as difficult as it seems. but i'm still 'sakit hati' about the whole thing. not to mention that the computer is not as yet, fully functional.

i m still tweaking the settings, and expect it to be fully up by the time the weekend rolls around.
anyway, what's happened happened already. so what can i say?

where did the RM4 Billion go???!!!

today's been a real long day, and the question for today is :

WHERE DID THE RM 4 BILLION THE GOVERNMENT SAID WAS GOING TOWARDS THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE TRANSPORT SYSTEM GO???!!!

maybe in someone's pocket? many people's pockets? or into the 4th dimension of nothingness, the way all politicians' promises seem to go?

BUT IT SURE AS HELL DIDN'T GO INTO IMPROVING THE SYSTEM!!!

i was stranded in Bukit Bintang/ Imbi with my ex-roommate for 3 hours, just because the monorail was non-functional, and no buses were forthcoming. and i established that my vocabulary of swear words is working properly. especially when i was practically shoved into the monorail by a sea of extremely impatient people. who yelled and shouted like animals too. crowds bring out the worst in people, must be the sense of anonymity it gives. you feel you can get away with it, because no one can pick you out due to the sheer size of the crowd.

what the hell. when i looked at the traffic on the road, it was like looking at a still life. nothing was moving. the same could be said of a lot in this country. 'nuff said.
