the fundamental self

would you believe me if i said that each of us has within us a fundamental self - the true person we are, the being with as many facets as a well-cut diamond and who waits to discover and be discovered? the values we hold, what we believe in - the one we are when we are alone, all by ourselves?

if you do, then holding on to that self is not always easy. so many pressures to change and be something else, someone else.

and yet, as a friend said the other day, some things just do not change. i am both heartened and comforted by those words.

at the end of it all - i think it best to live by Shakespeare's words -
to thine own self be true, and thou can then not be false to any man.
taken from Julius Caesar.

hello! thank you for reading. :)

well, to tell you the truth, i m also quite confused about who i am too, even at that level. so you're not alone, and well, everyday is a chance to get to know that self better, no?
