bloom

inside, the seed had begun to grow,
and the beginnings of a trunk
emerged from the rich, dark soil.
but when would it bloom?

it was not yet the time,
there was not enough room
for its questing roots,
and for the branches and leaves
to spread across the sky.
and far across the earth,
so many trees had begun
to grow, stretching
far beyond the soft white clouds...
still, it was not yet the time.

until the day
the slim green trunk sensed
the presence of space,
it could reach out,
so it did and behold ...
a tree, majestic and tall,
and nestled amongst
its many, long branches and
its deep green leaves...
red, red flowers that began to bloom
in the morning sun.

fluttering by the tree, and
it settled alight,
a butterfly, just come out
of its constricting cocoon.
the days and nights, a caterpillar
chewed and chewed its way...
from the green of its solid, thick body
to the multi-coloured gauzy wings
so pretty, so lively,
in the morning sun.

the wide open sky.
the vast plain of earth,
for those two i am glad.

dedicated to the many teachers - ms subhadra nair, mr rajan, mrs hong from the old days, you believed in me before i did...and to the many sunbursts in my life, my wonderful friends who have been there for me, and put up with me when we argued about what is a 'good personality' (i don't think i quite care anymore now and i STILL have no idea what it is...)

it's taken some time, but i am here today. thank you for coming all this way here.
and thanks be to Him ... all things done in His time and in His way.
