World Year of Physics 2005 and Albert Einstein

this year is the World Year of Physics and to commemorate the occasion, i would like to share with everyone some of my fave quotations by none other than Albert Einstein, father of relativity…

talking about Albert Einstein… it seems everyone has got some interesting things to say about him…eg Tina helpfully informing me that his mistress was a KGB agent or something or other…and Yin Harn telling me that “he played the violin, you know?”
my mother uses him as an example of a dud in school who made it big later on in life. (the latest reports indicate he was not a dud in school…)

personally i admire his vision and intelligence, not to mention his acknowledgment of spirituality and religion in the field of science. he was a master in making physics easy to understand and his forthright manner admirable. legend has it that he was once asked to give a speech at a dinner party whereupon he stood up and said…I have nothing to say now. come back in six months and I shall have something to say…
six months down the line he did come back and give a scintillating speech. talk about frankness…talk about ability...how many of us could have done the same?

well, here we go, ladies and gentlemen … words of wisdom from Albert Einstein…

great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds

the significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them

God does not play dice with the universe

an empty stomach is not a good political adviser
