the Tao of Pooh

i just finished reading the Tao of Pooh over the weekend. it's seemingly light, but filled with insights on lao-tzu's teachings and of course the cute pictures and excerpts from the original (as opposed to the disney version) of Winnie the Pooh interspersed between the text make it extremely appealling.

there is always a danger of over-simplification in these sort of books but the nature of the way of Tao is simplicity itself so this problem does not arise.

taking us from what the Tao is to making full use of our strengths as well as accepting our limitations - 'wu wei' to a world filled with people who are moving but getting nowhere fast, the book is never dry and the text is easy to follow.

i particularly enjoyed the section on chronically busy people, the 'Bisy Backsons' - i should know as i m one of them too (ha!). there is life to be found in taking it a bit slower and making time for just stopping to smell the roses and finding genuine peace and contentment inside.
if life has always been about achieving and performing, then maybe it's time to relook at what life is really all about.

so take a breath, laugh and read this book. and don't forget to live. it's not about getting a life, it's about choosing life.
