Our Father in Heaven,
Holy be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as well as in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the test,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
i have been pondering on forgiveness for a long time. many people to forgive, many sins to be forgiven, many sins i need to be forgiven.
and so it would seem that the phrase 'forgive and forget' is so easy to say, but so hard to do. until i heard from Fr Simon's sermon last Saturday, that forgiveness is not easy, and forgetting even less so. because to pretend like it never happened cheapens the act of forgiving.
another always bears the cost of the sin. the pain. the sorrow. the brokenness that sin brings. so to get it straight, i now know that my wounds are inextricably bound up with the sins that have been committed, and while it doesn't excuse the wrongs that have been done, i have come to terms with them.
in so doing, i have come to forgive with the grace that has been given me.
the phrase 'forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us' is not a barter trade. it is the norm of things, how it should be, as it were.

here is a useless thought....
i think to forgive is hard but its not as hard as forgetting.
if your heart is filled with God's love, it really makes forgiving easier.
to wipe off that memory is a different story. you can never forget. but you sure can forgive...with love
i did
peace....
:)
first off, that wasn't a useless thought.
and secondly, thanks for sharing. yes, i found that when i truly came to know God's love for me, (and i m still coming to understand it), it became easier to forgive.
forgetting? as you said, difficult. but healing means letting go at some point.
shalom to you too, and God bless!
