the LDOCE = Longman's Dictionary of Contemporary English, a fine dictionary i bought last year for my Vocab for the Social Sciences elective...
who was to know it would be so much fun?
take this:
shyster informal especially AmE a dishonest person, especially a LAWYER or BUSINESSMAN
(and later on the same page)
sic v sicced siccing 1 to tell a dog to attack someone sic sth on sb He sicced his dog on me.
2 sic 'em! spoken used to tell a dog to attack someone 3 to tell someone in authority that someone has done something wrong, so that they are are punished.: [+on] He sicced his LAWYERS on them.
( soooo... the LDOCE editors think that lawyers are dishonest and are like dogs. or maybe they're just reflecting public sentiment about lawyers. brings to mind the late MGG Pillai's famous phrase, adapted here - a pack of lawyers, baying for blood. ahhahaha)
