Run Lola Run / Stranger than Fiction

after the evidence assignment rush and trial on Thursday, i felt some relaxation was long overdue, and off i went to AEI (Asia-Europe Institute) UM to watch 'Run Lola Run' with my classmates from German I on Thursday (Donnerstag) as part of the German Film Week in UM.

it was quite a good watch, entertaining - complete with 3 different endings, so you get to pick the one you fancy and stay with it. the techno music complemented Lola's mad rush to find the 100,000 marks for her boyfriend Manni, and i learned some new German words as well. of course, what my German lecturer said was true - actual German is spoken very much faster than the pace which we are used to listening on the tape in class.

then came the supper courtesy of AEI, no complaints except i didn't get to sample the Brezeln, or German pretzels :P. there was enough food for everyone though, overall.

moving on to Stranger than Fiction, i watched that on Friday (Freitag) with my law fac kaki. sad to say, half of us didn't enjoy it but i am happy to report the other half of the group did. one man's meat is another man's poison. it was so sweet and so hopeful, espousing what i have come to believe, even more strongly since the year end and up to now, that life is short, and we must try our best to live it to the full.
beautifully understated, how the protagonist, Harold Crick managed to find redemption from an utterly unfulfilling existence into actually living. at some points he reminded me of an American version of Arthur Dent of the Hitchhiker's Guide fame.

i would say that choice and fate co-exist, a common thread running through both films. the choices we make determine who and what we are, and so we must choose wisely. one of the things which call for a decisive stand is the choice to live life to the full. because life is short, i have seen it with my own eyes. luck is part of the picture, but we make the best of what we have.
don't look back, we have eyes in front of our head for a reason.
so now i ask you (just as i ask myself) : what's keeping you back from living the life you lead?
the answer may well surprise you.
