Today marked the last day of my attachment at Mariadass, Lock & Ainuddin...
i finished 6 weeks of attachment, 3 at court and 3 in a firm, and in the process saw, learned and discovered many things...
(well, actually yesterday was supposed to be my last day, but i had to finish up some work in the office so i came back on saturday to do it. :P i couldn't help but shout 'woohoo' after i had finished it. :)
having waxed sufficiently on my time in court, i will now share my experience of working in a firm...first off, there's a lot of paper. files. everywhere. the first thing to remember is to be careful where you put your things because things get misplaced very easily when there's so much paper and files. which is how i lost my lil brown notebook, the one i used to jot down my observations in court. thank you for your 'condolence' messages...i m just glad i didn't lose my attachment forms or my purple attendance booklet which would spell huge amounts of trouble for me. so well, a lesson learned...i remember how untidy my desk was - the Rules of the High Court, 2 or 3 books on guarantees and bankruptcy, a few volumes of MLJ and Atkins Court Forms and a book on drafting and paper...again! i did, however, clear my desk up on the last day. took me some time though...
secondly, never believe anything you hear or see 100%. check out the truth of it for yourself. banks can make mistakes, Amanah Raya Berhad (the Public Trust Corporation) can get things wrong. check it out, and decide for yourself what must be done. and while the devil's in the details, sometimes it's the details that may make or break a case.
i learned how to count interest during my foray into bankruptcy law here. bankruptcy law is horribly complicated ... and if you are afraid of numbers, you may want to stay far far away. a good scientific calculator will help. i know mine did, my good friend since fm 6...
thirdly, plain english rules. thank you, dr rajes and pn jawakhir...but beyond that, good precedents help as well. esp when it comes to things like wills and OS and summons-in-chambers and affidavits.
i had a pretty good time here, with K (short for Kamariah), Angie, Uncle Wong (the office man - i feel funny calling him an office boy when he's really pushing 60), Chin, Siew, Teo, and the rest of the staff here...thank you for your treat at Crazy Ice-Cream, i really appreciate it. :) and i m happy to have known all of you. i won't forget you, don't you all worry about that.
one of my highlights here was going back to court to observe bankruptcy proceedings in court with K. very nice to see friends from court again. my super from court, pn tan cheered me up immensely when she said bankruptcy law wasn't easy as i was having a hard time working it out. court was lively as usual, i met a few juniors and had a chat with asri, the librarian there.
now it's time to finish up my report and send it up to the faculty on friday. i m taking the bus down to kl on thursday.
back to uni, on to final year and beyond! God willing, all of us will pull through and make it.
here's wishing all of you all the best!
pet sends her sincerest and warmest hopes to all of you. :)

Hey, you had an Angie at your firm too? So did I...
Attachment wasn't so bad, was it? :) Anyway, we have our holidays back - and we should definitely make the most of them! In a couple of weeks' time it's back to the grind.
