(hands up, how many of you agree with me?)
...remembering some of the workshops i've attended recently
there was the HAL (High Achieving Lawyer) one i attended last month along with the rest of the 3rd and 4th year students (attendance was compulsory, naturally). it was meant to teach us how to be 'high achieving lawyers' who would 'out in the frontline' per our dean. a pretty informative workshop, but what i remember most was the questionnaire we were subjected to before the workshop. it had the net effect of making all of us feel like idiots with a total iq of 6...questions like what does sro stand for? what is the malaysian bar's website url? what is the difference between resume and cv? ...anyway, at least i know now... :P. but kudos to Ms Joanne fm Careersmatic Consulting (how many of you caught the pun???) for giving a great seminar.
there was also the CITRA one i went for last week at alam bina audi with harn and siewwee. it proclaimed 'Get That Job!' apparently the one we signed up for earlier, 'Effective Communication at the Workplace' had only 5 people attending it so we were shoved into this one...so people would rather go out guns blazing and get 'that' job rather than learn what the hell to do on 'that' job.
on the plus side, there were nice meals. too bad they were interrupted...
on the minus side, it was ... dull. maybe you like holding hands and singing a song about smiling. or practising ultra fake, ultra insincere conversation with your neighbour. or how about learning to make friends with the'pak guard' to get info on the company? and watching a pointless and sappy and horribly illogical korean music video...? you get the picture.
but i did learn how to proclaim loudly, confidently and accusatorily at people who blame others when they screw up "BANGAU!" and how to 'senyum tiga' - a wide mouthed and supposedly charming smile. for further effect i ought to wave a plastic heron in the air. or use a squeaker toy.
also learned how to use SALAM MESRA . and to think it was just something rtm newscasters used to say at the end of the news...it turns out that it's a 'powerful' communication technique!
oh wow. i m impressed...
and i have found out why certain 'perasan' guys would think that i liked them, thanks to this workshop.
first, of course, this is due to their perasan-ness (self explanatory i dare say)
and secondly, because i pay attention to them when we talk. ego boosting attentiveness on my part leads them to believe that i am interested in them beyond their being people. so i know what to do the next time round.
see you all around later folks! do share with me your workshop/seminar experiences.be good to compare notes =)
